As LSC continues to pursue its ambitious growth plan, we are seeking a Senior Graphic Designer with a strong focus on graphics as they apply to interactive exhibitions. The Senior Graphic Designer will conceive and produce graphics for display, including interpretive panels for new and current exhibitions, donor and sponsor signage, environmental and informational graphics, interfaces for interactive kiosks, interior and exterior wayfinding signage, and graphics for support of ongoing operations throughout Liberty Science Center. The Senior Graphic Designer will lead the visual direction and design process from start to finish, including developing concept and design drawings, preparing specifications and project documentation, creating production files, and project management from implementation through installation. The Senior Graphic Designer reports to Head, Exhibition Development and Design.

Lead the exhibition department’s visual direction
Develop and design accessible graphic environments and elements that fulfill our mission to provide engaging, meaningful and compelling experiences for guests.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary exhibition teams made up of LSC staff and outside experts and contractors
Visualize and communicate design through sketches, drawings, renderings, models, and/or prototypes
Prepare design documentation files from concept through bid packages and fabrication and installation, including detailed design drawings and specifications
Work with and, as assigned, manage staff, contract designers and external vendors
Manage and meet project budgets and schedules
Stay up-to-date on trends in experience and environmental design and materials in museums, science centers, architecture and other fields
Incorporate universal design, human-factors and evaluation findings into design solutions
Understand, apply and continue to develop Liberty Science Center Brand standards

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Fabrication and industry standards and materials for environmental graphics and exhibition design
All areas of graphic design techniques, and production and printing processes ADA design guidelines, standards and accessibility
Media and interface design, HTML, and modeling; rendering or CAD software is a plus
Skills Strong design skills, particularly for spatial visualization and implementing effective graphic design to support digital, mechanical, and other interactive exhibit components.
Excellent technical capabilities including illustration, typography, visual presentation and production detailing is required
Excellent skills with Adobe Creative Cloud suite, such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
Strong project and staff management skills with a demonstrated ability to meet schedules and deadlines and to keep team members on task
Abilities Lead and coordinate simultaneous projects from concept through installation
Read architectural plans
Qualifications and Experience
BA (MA/MFA preferred) in Graphic or Communication Design
6+ years of graphic design experience in a science museum, children’s museum, or similar setting, with a focus on creating interactive exhibition experiences for family audiences
2+ years of project management and coordination experience, including creating and managing complex budgets and schedules

This is a full-time position. Some early morning, evening, and weekend hours will be required during peak work periods.
This position may require up to 10% travel.

The Senior Graphic Designer sits for long periods at a desk and routinely uses standard office equipment, such as a computer, phone, copier, and scanner. Time on the museum floors is also necessary, especially during installation and evaluation phases of a project to observe how visitors experience the Center. Lifting, bending and standing, using and operating tools, climbing ladders and stairs, walking along catwalks, ascending and descending in scissor-lifts, and ability to lift 30 pounds are also necessary.
